============================================================================= ANONYMOUS FTP SITES ============================================================================= Archival FTP sites containing animal-related text files and software programs are not well documented on the Internet. Help in locating more sites is appreciated. The general procedure to login to these sites is to use the FTP facility on your computer to connect to the remote site, then at the username prompt, login as anonymous and enter your e-mail address as password. To identify files you wish to access, you can use the DIR command, which functions much like in MS-DOS. The CD command also works normally in most cases. To obtain a list of available subdirectories, Use the LS command. Once you locate the file you want, it may be transferred by typing GET (filename). When finished with your FTP session, issue the command QUIT to return to your computer. It is also possible to retrieve archived files via e-mail. BITFTP provides this mail interface to FTP commands and is provided on a Princeton University computer. To use BITFTP, send mail containing your ftp commands to BITFTP@PUCC (on Bitnet) or BITFTP@pucc.Princeton.edu (on Internet). Send the command HELP in the body of a mail message to obtain full instructions on this service. Europeans Bitnet/Internet users should use the BITFTP server in Germany: BITFTP@DEARN or bitftp@vm.gmd.de with the same instructions for obtaining help above. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ANIMAL RIGHTS FTP: think.com or 131.239.2.1 Directory: /pub/animal-rights URL: ftp://think.com/pub/animal-rights/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- AQUARIA FTP: camel.scubed.com or 192.31.63.74 Directory: /aquaria URL: ftp://camel.scubed.com/aquaria/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- AQUARIA FTP: jerico.usc.edu or 128.125.51.47 Directory: /pub/aquaria URL: ftp://jerico.usc.edu/pub/aquaria/ Description: The FAQ for sci.aquaria, rec.aquaria and alt.aquaria is posted monthly on the first on of the month.
